Dev update - What we are working on

Hey everyone. I wanted to provide a quick update on what we're currently working on in the near term.

  1. [Released] We are in the process of adding two additional post types to improve the creation experience and how posts are displayed. We will introduce a "Link" type that will show a thumbnail of the provided link, and an "Image" type that will simplify the upload process and optimize post sizing in the feeds.
  2. [Released] We are also working on enhancing the layout of the posts to place more emphasis on the titles. This will make it easier to skim through the content while scrolling through our feeds.
  3. [Released] We will be updating the feed filters on the "Home" page to allow filtering based on either "Activity" or "Recent," with "Activity" being the default. Currently, the "Popular" tab displays posts with the most likes across the entire platform. This is not an accurate representation of the activity levels on the platform, so we are prioritzing this change.
  4. Another priority for us is developing moderation tools. We have a comprehensive list of tooling that we plan to build out, and it is one of our primary focuses.

If you haven't seen it yet, we have an expanded roadmap list that we constantly update with our long-term vision for the platform. As the site gains popularity, we intend to bring on more developers to help speed up the delivery of items on this list.

Please let us know if there is anything important to you or your community that we should add, and we can look at prioritizing it.

Cheers.

When do you estimate that most of the features on your roadmap will be implemented?

If you are referring to the main roadmap outlined in that other post, I suspect we will have the majority of it done over the next few months however the stuff in that list is subject to change as we are constantly adding things to it and shifting priorities around based on user feedback.

We have been talking internally about bringing on another dev to help. We have someone in mind who we will be talking more seriously with over the next week or so and hope to work something out with him which will greatly increase our development capacity. The other dev's schedule who is working on this is also freeing up so he will also be able to dedicate a lot more time each week. Expect lots of improvements to come!

Is RSS available or planned?
Both from a user perspective of getting notified of new posts in specific communities and of private DMs/replies/username mentions (keeping track of what you've already seen, and being able to filter out content based on keywords/topics that you aren't interested about)
And also from a mod perspective of being able to keep track of your community - new posts, reports, filtered content, modmail, etc. (ideally with a high enough default amount of items that arrive in the feed or a way to increase the amount like adding "?limit=100" on reddit)

We haven't put a ton of thought into RSS yet, however it has always been something in the back of my mind in regards to something I want to implement. We definitely want to improve on our users ability to keep tabs on different posts/communities within the platform, but if we integrate with RSS, it would allow for that to also happen externally.

The other dev and I actually did have a brief talk a while ago about something similar to what you described where we could add a feature that would create a "newsletter" highlighting the most relevant posts within a given community that people could subscribe to via email/RSS. Kind of like a "daily", "weekly", or "monthly" recap of that community.

We are definitely going to be building out our moderation tooling including adding a dashboard page within the app for moderators to review posts/comments made within the communities they manage, likely displayed in some sort of feed layout. I'm not sure if RSS is useful for this specifically as well?

Thank you for the response.
As a user (on Reddit specifically) I found that having an RSS feed for the communities I follow was super helpful - not having to manually check many different communities and figure out what's new on them, and also being able to filter out content that's irrelevant for me. Also for DMs/replies/mentions, not having to manually check for those in the notifications, and thus getting alerted in a timely manner and being on top of things.
Similarily as a mod - it's great for staying on top of the communities you mod, not having to check for new posts/modmail/reports/filtered content/etc. It all comes to you and you can quickly respond when it does.

Yeah that makes sense. I appreciate the insight into the feature suggestion. Going to add RSS support to our roadmap and chat with the other dev about where we can fit it in with our priorities!
